New designs for Honolulu Festival eco bags

As I had mentioned in an earlier blog, we are in the process of setting up online shopping for Honolulu Festival logo goods. Soon, we promise. But in the meantime I would like to introduce some of the new designs for our eco bags.




These examples are just a few of the designs that we have created.
We are planning on having different designs, colors and sizes. So what do you think, have you found anything that suits your fancy?


We are planning on using these eco bags as give aways for our special promotions as well. Don’t forget we will be giving away prizes at our Ennichi Corner for game winners at the Hawaii Convention Center during the festival and these eco bags will be part of the prizes.

We have also designed some T-shirts to go along with these bags.

Splendor of China Part 4 Beijing Art Performing Group and China National Performing Arts Group

Here is the final section of Splendor of China. I hope that you have enjoyed it. This part is about the performing groups from Beijing that came from far away to entertain the people of Hawaii. Such splendid performances, what a treat!

First of all, the Chinese harp. The selections were contemporary. It was quite unique to hear western style music played on the traditional Chinese harp.

A magic show from Beijing. The comical entertainment got the audience to laugh.


And…the world famous Changing Face Magician!

I was really looking forward to this performance.

The magician blows fire and smoke.

　
He moves quickly and changes his mask one by one, scary ones too.
　
And he does it in a blink of an eye and it appears as though he is not even touching the masks at all!

I wonder how he created this illusion?


He appears to resemble a Kabuki actor. And then…all masks are removed!


The audience clapped and cheered.

The show lasted about fifteen minutes. Sure wish it was longer.

The next act was an acrobatic duo with a comical flair, a tragedy about a spoiled princess and monk.

Here goes the bratty princess ordering the monk to do acrobat with a candle on his head.

Hesitant at first, the monk proves to the princess that he is good.

Then the princess pushes the monk to do more difficult moves…and he succeeds.
　
The audience laughs at the facial expressions of the monk as the bratty princess orders him to do more.

The princess makes the monk blow the fire from the candle on his head without using his hands.

It was a very cute and funny skit.

This concludes my report on Splendor of China. I hope you enjoyed it. Of course the best thing to do is mark your calendars for October 2009 so you can personally attend the annual festival. The variety of activities was very entertaining. And as always, experiencing the culture of China was not only educational but enlightening! Aloha.

Splendor of China Part 3 Chinese Dog Show and Hawaiian Moon Fashion Show

Let’s talk about the dog show and the fashion show that was held at Splendor of China.

I know that there are many dog lovers. I’m one of them. So when I heard that there was going to be a show of dogs originally bred in China I was excited.



Here’s the Chow chow…so fluffy and huggable.
　
Here is the interesting Chinese Crested.

And next is a long haired Pug. I’ve never seen one of these before.
　

And then the cute Shar Pei, full of wrinkles.
　

And here is a Chin.


I think that this is a Shih Tzu. Please accept my apology. I should have taken better notes about the breeds. But the main thing is that they are all dogs originally bred in China. Isn’t that amazing?
　

Next is the Fashion Show organized by Hawaiian Moon, a favorite local brand. Even the dog is wearing a matching outfit!

Great fashion for the entire family to wear.
　　
I’m not sure if the dog appreciates this.

Here are the contestants of the 60th Narcissus Queen Pageant in their beautiful Chinese outfits, Cheongsam. Contestants of the Narcissus Queen Pageant must be of Chinese descent.
　　　

The beauties all have stylish figures. They look radiant in their cheongsam.

I am looking forward to having them participate in the 15th Annual Honolulu Festival Grand Parade.


What a wonderful presentation of another aspect of China’s culture.

Spendor of China Part 2 The Food

A Chinese Festival must have Chinese food!

There were over ten booths representing various kinds of Chinese dishes.

Panda Express had a very large booth.


Tables and chairs were set up so that everyone could take their time and enjoy a nice meal.

All sorts of Chinese dishes and snacks.

　
Finger food and delicious dim sum!


Celebrity chef Martin Yan was also at the festival. He loves Hawaii and has become a regular at Splendor of China. Chef Yan showed off his cooking skills during the two days. He’s funny too! He is currently featured on public television. His latest show is called “Martin Yan’s China”-a blend of travel, culture and cooking. Hope the show comes to Hawaii.

　


Then there was the Cow Guts Stew Eating Contest hosted by Chin's Kahala…to see who can eat the stew the quickest. And I know there are many who will squirm just thinking of cow guts.I think it sounds worse than it really is. I’ve had some dishes similar to this one and it’s quite tasty.

After eating the whole plate of stew each contestant had to open their mouth and show that they ate all the innards. And because the dish is very chewy it took a while to finish the plate.






And the winner is…
　

a very young and tall man! Here is a picture of the winner with the Narcissus Queen and her Court. Lucky guy.

Isn’t this great? Once again the cross cultural angle that I am always talking about. You’ve heard of America’s hot dog eating contests and pie eating contests, so here’s a new one for you. And only at a Chinese cultural event in Hawaii!
